After having such a bad day yesterday, it was nice to have a much better day today. I fitted the offside door that is now no longer a door but is actually a panel that just looks like a door, there is no way of opening it from either inside or out. I sprayed up the inner skin and fitted it, while I was at it I fitted the driver's door skin, which I had sat there waiting for a few days now. It all went splendidly, I glued the rubber to the top of the off side running board so now both sides look the same. I used the same ribbed rubber to make the brake and clutch pedals non slip, an IVA requirement.
A few bits got lightly tarted up, it is looking so much more complete now. I can't finish the inner panels as yet again an ebay seller has failed to deliver, yet anther one in Leicester, Quangdong province. It's just the covers for the self tapping screws but I can'd finish the job without them, another 3 day delivery that has already been over a week.
My replacement cylinder heads arrived, they look in much better condition than the ones on there. I removed an inlet valve to see what the wear on the stem and guide looked like, there simply wasn't any. It's weird, they have been used but it looks to me like they have been recently rebuilt because the valves look like new and so do the guides. These are ERC0216 ones as fitted to early 3.9 litre fuel injected engines, they have the same 36cc combustion chamber as mine but the valves are bigger and the stems of the inlet valves are waisted to give better gas flow. Should up the power a wee bit and make it rev better at the top end. I can't fit them until I have a new gasket set, one is on order, I am using the this steel gaskets to keep the 10.5 to 1 compression ratio, I may have to run octane booster or retard the ignition to stop pinking, I won't know until I run it.
Really chuffed with progress today, the job list is now really quite short with a couple of big jobs now done - no I haven't shat anywhere, before anybody says anything. Next job is to sort out the handbrake lever cover, I have an idea, will look at that soon. I still need to sort out a windscreen and two side screens, the wiring for the window motors is already in, just need to connect that to the motors, I need to drill holes to get the wires in to the doors. Door seals have been fitted to the two rear non doors, I need to do the same for the front actual doors. Then it's paint, carpet and roof liner, as soon as I have sorted the windscreen and side screens I will apply for the IVA test, hopefully it will be on the road before the end of the Summer.
I have done a video - here -
