Vauxhall Insignia TPMS Problem / fix

I started my car up the other day and the TPMS warning light stayed on, going in to the menu showed that the front left tyre was showing 8 psi. I checked the pressure with a gauge and it was at 32 - which is bang on. The problem persisted over several starts / stops of the engine so I took it to my local tyre place.

TPMS equipped cars have a sensor in each wheel, each tyre is monitored individually, any error results in the orange light coming on and the data being reported in the TPMS menu. After a while it went to zero PSI, the tyre places now have readers so they can check each sensor individually. Mine was reporting over 100 psi on their gauge so the sensor was obviously dead - they have a battery in them and a finite life.

So with the sensor changed they tried to reset the TPMS warning but it wouldn't go off, even when trying to reset it through the OBD2 port. Bugger. They tried very hard with more than one device but all to no avail. I came home, had a sulk and then came up with the idea of disconnecting the receiver module to see what would happen. It is located behind the rear bumper, you can get at it from underneath the car without removing anything. The connector is at the bottom so very easy to remove. I hoped that unplugging it and plugging it back in would reset it - it didn't. Bugger again. Just to save anybody looking it up, my car is a 2012, I believe other years may use a different module but mine is a GM part, it's part number is 13393595, if yours has the connector coming out of the bottom it's this one, the other type has the connector on it's side. It's right in the middle of the bumper, you can see it quite easily when lying under the car looking upwards.

I had a brain wave and decided it was maybe a good idea to do a full power down so I removed the negative from the battery for 10 minutes and then reconnected it, well spank my arse and call me Charlie, that cleared it!! I had to reset the windows and the stereo but that's small beer in the grand scheme of things - If you have this problem I seriously recommend trying the power down first. I have no idea why it cleared it when resetting the receiver didn't but it worked and cost nothing. Hope this helps somebody.
