I took Betty out to see how well she was running with nice new coils and plugs - the answer to that is very well indeed. She's as smooth as a cashmere cod piece and it could be me but she seems to pick up better than ever it ever has in my possession. I gave her some beans and she responded beautifully, she does very well for an old lady of her weight and girth.
Only trouble is the wet carpet syndrome came back with a vengeance. It was only on the passenger side but the first corner I came to it looked like somebody emptied a bucket on the carpet, you could hear it slosh. I had been given advice on the Arnage efups facebook group that the drains in the bottom of the cabin filter housings get blocked, that advice was spot on. I removed the filter and saw it was soaked up to half its depth, the chamber it sits in was half full of water. I think it got in there because the gasket on the filter holder was damaged, a section of it was missing. The water couldn't go anywhere because the drain was indeed very blocked. Unblocking that had the water running away very quickly, right on to my foot that was underneath where the drain comes out! The filter is ruined but at just 13 quid delivered it's hardly a big deal. A slightly bigger deal is the two gaskets that only seem to be available from the specialists at a price that equates to twice what the filters cost. I'm such a tight arse that I will make my own, it's a 5 minute job.
I'm glad I found it, it's easily fixed, it's not the leaky windscreen that I first suspected. I will leave the filter out for now, the new one is on order, the car will work fine without it.
Another whinge on the cost of Bentley parts, they very wildly - 13 quid was the cheapest, some places ask 5 times that. It's a fecking cabin filter ffs, 60 quid simply isn't justifiable, don't pay it!
